"California Cult Wines" - these very
words are likely to send enthusiasts into a genuine
wine-buying frenzy. Break out the checkbook, dig into
the 401k! So what exactly is it about these rare, exotic
expressions, which make them so valuable and sought-after?
And are these highly-priced, highly- prized beauties
really worth all the bother and fuss? Angel’s
Share is proud to present the rare opportunity to judge
for yourself with an elegant evening of swirling and
tasting some of the finest red wines the world has to
offer.
But honestly, why does anybody pay hundreds of dollars
for a bottle of "cult" wine when there are
so many great and inexpensive wines at our fingertips
today?
Well, I think the answer lies in our passions and
our individual styles.
Consider the individual purchasing a timepiece. A
Rolex, which may cost thousands of dollars, has basically
the same function as a fifteen dollar Timex. It is
the difference between driving around in the newest
Bentley Arnage and an old Volkswagen Beetle; the sound
of a silvered fork chiming on Spiegelau's finest crystal
stemware and drinking from a paper cup. You get the
idea.
It’s not really about utility at all.
It’s about STYLE and TASTE. It’s about
appreciating and experiencing the best things life
has to offer. Which can be as simple - or as complex
- as a great bottle of wine.
The wines on our cult list are selected because they
stand out from the pack in extraordinary ways. They
spark creativity and imagination. They are true to
type, and for the most part originate from classic
vineyards known for producing incredible fruit vintage
after vintage. In the hands of expert winemakers alchemy
quietly transforms an ordinary beverage into something
rare and sublime.
I think you’ll be surprised and delighted with
our up-and-comers, wine we call "the next generation"
cult wines. They are fabulous, and I think every bit
as good as the heavy hitters. Attendees will have
the rare chance to meet some next generation winemakers
and winery owners, and even get a spot on their exclusive
mailing lists.
The chefs at the Ritz Carlton have promised to create
a feast you will never forget, with each course designed
to showcase the suppleness and opulence of each wine.
Our Master of Ceremonies for the evening is Spencer
Christian, an affable wine aficionado and known around
the country as former host of ABC’s Good Morning
America. Rounding out the evening is a show-stopping
live auction with many one-of-a-kind wine and lifestyle
lots. Our beneficiary is the American Institute of
Wine and Food Norcal’s "Day’s of
Taste" program, bringing the concept of nutrition
and good eating habits directly into our schools.
So with the promise of a sumptuous dinner and excellent
camaraderie, I invite you and your friends to be our
wine experts for the evening. You be the judge and
trust your palate. Our goal is to provide you with
a truly great context for the experience, where you
can savor great wines in an elegant, fun and relaxed
atmosphere.
I look forward to you joining me on this unique wine
experience, and to your musings, feelings and reflections
on these cult wines!
To Your Very Good Health,
Mark Russo
