Angel's Share Warmly
Welcomes ABC7's Spencer Christian as the Master of
Ceremonies
Recognized by many as the long-time weatherman on
ABC-TV's "Good Morning America", Spencer
Christian is currently weatherman/newscaster for ABC-7
News on KGO-TV in San Francisco. He moved to the Bay
Area in December, 1998, after having spent 22 years
with ABC-TV in New York.
In addition to his prominent role on ABC, Spencer
has also become widely known as an oenophile. He began
tasting, studying, and collecting fine wine in 1976
and, for more than two decades, maintained a personal
collection of more than 1,500 bottles. In January,
1995, he began hosting a weekly television program
called "Spencer Christian's Wine Cellar".
The show aired for nearly 3 years on HGTV (Home &
Garden Television) before moving to the TV Food Network
in 1997. His programs have taken him to the most celebrated
vineyards in California, Washington State, and other
U.S. wine growing regions, as well as France, Australia,
and New Zealand. Spencer has also conducted numerous
wine tastings, seminars, and auctions all across North
America.
Since moving to the Bay Area and settling in Marin
County, Spencer has become even more passionately
involved with wine. He regularly attends gourmet food
and wine events; he visits California wine growing
regions about two weekends out of every month; and
he often broadcasts his weather reports for KGO-TV
and ABC-7 News from vineyards and other wine-related
venues. In addition, Spencer hosts a weekly one-hour
radio program on wine. It is called "The Wine
Radio Network", and it airs Saturdays at 11:00am
and Sundays at 2:00pm on KVON Radio in Napa. Spencer
has plans to expand the program to a network of radio
stations across the country. He is also in the process
of launching a major new television wine show, possibly
as early as the fall of 2005. Details on this new
program will be announced later this year.
